Summer Workshop

Surface Decoration Techniques with Robyn Brakel

This is a weekend (two-day) workshop.
August 21st & 22nd, 1-4 PM
Cost: $120 per person, all materials provided
Location: Auburn Clay Arts Studio, 808 Lincoln Way (around back), Auburn, CA


Details: Students will learn various techniques for surface decoration including Mishima, sgraffito, underglaze work with stamps, stencils and silkscreen, and watercolor painting with underglaze. We will be using tiles (both wet and bisque) and will also decorate a small tray. These will be fired at the studio and will be available for pickup the week following the course.

Instructor Bio: Robyn Brakel took a wheel throwing class on a whim 12 years ago and became mesmerized by clay and its ability to be manipulated. She received her Bachelors of Art from University of Texas, San Antonio, and after working as a potter for several years, began doing sculpture work in clay. She received a Masters Degree in Studio Art from CSU, Sacramento in 2017. Her experience includes teaching several workshops on hand building, teaching ceramics and Raku at Solano Community College and American River College, and working in her home studio in Folsom, CA.
